Creating Products
A product in Pasera represents a SKU-level definition — a specific garment, accessory, or textile item in your catalog.
Product creation (3 steps)
Step 1: Basics
- Product name — e.g., “Classic Crew T-Shirt”
- SKU — your internal reference code
- Category — select from active ESPR categories (Apparel, Footwear, Accessories, Home Textiles, Workwear, Sportswear, Leather Goods)
- Subcategory — pick from a curated list that updates based on your category selection (e.g., for Apparel: t-shirt, jacket, trousers, dress, etc.). Select “Other…” to type a custom subcategory.
- GTIN — your GS1 barcode number (optional). If you provide one, the passport resolves as a valid GS1 Digital Link; leave it blank and Pasera assigns a platform identifier. GS1 prefixes are licensed per-brand from your national GS1 organization — Pasera cannot issue GTINs on your behalf.
- E-commerce URL — link to your product page (optional)
Step 2: Materials composition
Define what your product is made of. Each material row includes:
- Material type — grouped by category:
- Natural: cotton (organic), cotton (conventional), wool, linen, silk, hemp, jute, down
- Synthetic: polyester (virgin/recycled), nylon (virgin/recycled), elastane, acrylic
- Regenerated: viscose, lyocell, modal
- Leather: leather, synthetic leather
- Other: rubber (natural/synthetic)
- Percentage — must sum to 100% across all materials
- Recycled % — how much of this material is recycled content (0–100). Shown as a badge on the consumer passport and rolled up into an overall recycled-content figure and the recyclability score.
- Origin country — where the raw material is sourced (120+ countries)
- Supplier link (optional) — select a connected supplier, then choose from their product catalog
When you link a material to a supplier’s catalog product, the material type, recycled %, and origin auto-fill from their registered data.
Step 3: Care, components & compliance
Care & end-of-life — structured dropdown menus for standardized care instructions:
- Wash temperature — Machine wash 30/40/60, hand wash, dry clean only, do not wash
- Drying method — Tumble dry low/medium, line dry, flat dry, do not tumble dry
- Iron setting — Low/medium/high, do not iron
- Extra care — Do not bleach, keep away from fire, professional clean only, etc.
- Expected lifespan — 1-10+ years, or “200+ washes”
- Recyclable — yes/no
- Recycling instructions — return to store, textile recycling bin, separate components, etc.
Components & trims (optional) — the non-fabric parts of the product. Each component row has a name, type (trim, hardware, zipper, label, lining, filling, other), material, weight in grams, and a removable flag (can it be separated for repair or recycling?). These appear as a bill-of-materials table on the passport, contribute to the total product weight, and improve recyclability scoring when parts are removable.
Chemical compliance (optional) — declare substance-of-concern status for ESPR/REACH:
- Category — REACH SVHC, RSL (restricted substances), heavy metals, azo dyes, or other
- Status — Compliant, Below threshold, Present, Pending, or Not tested
- Substance & CAS number (optional) — name the specific substance
- MSDS / test report — upload a safety data sheet or lab report (PDF/image) from the product editor; the passport links to it for download
Verified declarations show a checkmark — the same third-party verification model as certificates.
Estimated materials impact
On the product detail page, Pasera shows an estimated PEFCR score based on the materials composition alone. This uses secondary emission factors and an assumed product weight (~250g) to give you a directional reading before any batch data exists.
The estimate shows:
- kgCO2e per unit from materials only
- % better/worse than category average (8.1 kgCO2e baseline for textile apparel)
- Breakdown by material showing each material’s contribution
This helps you compare material choices before production starts.
